Great compass camp in Hungary
“Great camp, great location and great players”. This is how compass expert coach Evelyn Simon enthusiastically summed up the small but excellent camp that compass held at the Gödöllö Table Tennis Centre in Hungary from 15 to 19 January 2024.
“It was very pleasing that we were able to welcome some players to a compass camp in Gödöllö” added compass Managing Director Daniel Zwickl about the week, during which he himself also supported the camp on and off the court.
Danilo Faso new compass member
The few players present were at a very high level for their age. Italian Danilo Faso, reigning U13 European champion and a sponsored member of Team compass from 1 January 2024, was one of them.
“It was a pleasure to start working with Danilo and that his father Marco accompanied him part of the time, but also that his mother Yuliya came to support him here. So this camp was a really great opportunity to work closer with the Faso family.”
National players as sparring partners
Lizett Fazekas from Hungary was also present. She was a singles medallist at the U13 European Championships in Zagreb in 2023. Stefan Bonchev, Ireland, born in 2012, was also an invited guest for the whole week. From Hungary, the promising Mark Gergely (2010) and Lenard Szabo (also 2010) attended the camp.
As if that wasn’t enough. Two players from the Hungarian men’s national team, which has match points against the eventual world champions Sweden at the European Team Championships in Malmö (Sweden), took part as additional sparring partners: Adam Szudi and Bence Majoros. Quite a squad for a training camp!
Many improvements
“Evelyn worked very individually with a focus on Lizett” continues Daniel Zwickl. “We had one-to-one sessions, the physio was there three times this week with prevention and mobility exercises. There were matches, meetings and training sessions. We hope that we can continue these small, intensive training camps in Hungary.”
“Great camp, great location and great players” summarised compass expert coach Evelyn Simon. “It was well organised, the players trained very well and with a lot of passion and concentration. You could clearly see how they improved in just one week. What’s more, a hall that was built just for table tennis and where you can play 24/7 is always fantastic.”
