From the start with the first tournament in 2005, the Euro Mini Champs (EMC) was considered as the unofficial European Championships for ten and eleven year old girls and boys, although players from Japan and sometimes China also participated in the event. From 2022, the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) will organise an annual European Championships for U13 players and World Table Tennis has introduced the U11 and U13 categories, both of which have affected the status of the EMC. However, the tournament is a fantastic opportunity for the players to play a lot of games in different situations, while at the same time the event is still the first big international tournament for the very young players and serves as a milestone for the European U11 and U13 talents.

Ladimir outperforms 111 competitors

Among the players supported by compass, Ladimir Mayorov from Spain was the most successful, winning gold in the event open to players born in 2013 or later. Ladimir was the best of the 111 participants in the event, losing only one game in the knockout stage. In the semi-finals, Mayorov defeated Reah Krol Shahar of Israel in straight games, and in the final he overcame Pietro Campagna of Italy 11:5, 11:5, 11:8. “Ladimir played well and up to his strong level, dominated and won quite easily. He really showed his qualities in the final,”  said compass Managing Director Daniel Zwickl, who watched the tournament live in Schiltigheim.

Siri wins bronze

U13 European Champion Siri Benjegård of Sweden reached the semi-finals of the girls born in 2011-2012, an event that attracted 78 players. In the semi-finals Siri lost to the finalist Mana Shintani of Japan in straight games. “I was very passive against the Japanese in the semi-finals. But she also played very well and it was difficult for me to get the rallies I wanted. In the bronze medal match against Sanada I was more aggressive and it paid off.” – said Siri Benjegård afterwards.
